Dan in Hospital

Suddenly, no words will come.  What can I say?  Though we are in a bit of shock, we have hope for better days ahead.  Today, Tuesday, Dan and I met with Dr. O’Donnel, brilliant surgical oncologist, associate of Dr. Tierey Jahan, Sarcoma Specialist, at the University of California San Francisco Medical Research Center.  As soon as Dr. O’D saw the protruding wound in Dan’s pelvis, now 12 cm X 11 cm., Dr. O’D said, “This is a disaster!”  There is a fungating  (sp?) mass with a super infection.  Fortunately, there is no cellulitis. And, the sarcoma itself has moved from it’s original position.  Maybe it can now be removed?

Saying, “I only do this 2 or 3 times a year…I am putting you in the hospital today.”  Before 2 p.m., Dan was in a hospital bed at the Parnassus Medical Center, Long Hospital, Room 1235. phone 415,514.5381.  He had the MRI this evening.  The P-T Scan is scheduled for Wednesday, 4 February.

Surgery is scheduled for Monday, 9 February.  They don’t know what they are going to do until they see the test results. This is a research, teaching hospital.  They know the most advanced methods. They suggested things that M.D. Anderson did not even mention. As soon as we know more, we will post it on the blog.  We “planned” to be back here for the memorial service honoring our daughter in law’s father.  God had other plans.  How much do we really love and trust God?  We are about to find out.

This morning, God gave Shan Yee these messages for us in her devotional book, God Calling, by A.J. Russell.  “The Lord shall preserve your going out and coming in from this time forth and even forever more.” Psalm 121:8  Russell concluded, “Your suffering has purpose.  It is a proof of Sonship.  It leads to perfection of character and to union with God.”  There is nothing God cannot do.  There is no 11th hour rescue that God cannot perform.  Therefore, we cling to Him.

Last of all, Russell wrote, “Rejoice in your weakness. God’s strength is made perfect in weakness. When you are weak, then God is strong.  Strong to help, to cure, to protect.”  —  Anne and Dan
