Settling In

We’re happy to tell you that we have been given a couple of boxes of good used clothes to send to the Red Cross in Sfantu Gheorghe, Romania.  Once the boxes get to the shipping company in Troy, Michigan, it only costs $1.05 a pound to have them shipped to Romania.  The company guarantees delivery to the door with no problems by Customs!  The minimum charge is for a 40 pound box.  I packed the first box, weighed it, and went looking for a bigger box.  My box weighed 20 pounds!  If any of you want to ship GOOD used clothing to help our friends at the Red Cross provide clothing for the needy, I’ll be happy to tell you how.

Accepting that Dan’s medical needs require that we be here much longer than we had thought, we are working on making our room more “our own.”   The last part of our closet/wardrobe was finished today.  This evening, Dan woke up long enough to go with me to buy a mattress that meets our needs better.  The clerk was happy to let us try out the mattresses for as long as we wanted.  Dan lay down…and went to sleep!  We tried out several over the period of 1 1/2 hours. (We did by  a mattress.)  Now, we know what we can do when we have to be away from the house a long time. When we get tired, we’ll go to a mattress shop and “try out” a mattress!

Friday Dan felt okay 1/2 of the day.  He was “up” for the local Christian HIgh School play.  Even though she is home schooled, our granddaughter was invited to be the prompter for the play.  Dan and I felt like real people going out for the evening.  Well, okay, most people don’t take a portable recliner and memory foam mattress to recline in during the play. We had a lot of fun anyway!

Today he took a pain pill to calm his knees and slept off and on all day.  But, in general, his quality of life is improving.  With him feeling some better and sleeping better, I got 7 hours sleep last night instead of the usual 4 1/2 – 5 hours.  I took a long walk in the sunshine this morning admiring all the lovely flowers and interesting coastside architecture, the Pacific and the mountains.  The beauty of God’s handiwork still amazes and blesses me.  —  Anne and Dan
