Goodbye, Wound Vac

The final instructions from the Plastic Surgeon who came to Emergency to take care of Dan were this – stop the Wound Vac, clean and pack the cavity 2 times a day. No more beeping every few minutes when the WV malfunctions.  And, maybe, this new method of packing the cavity will promote proper healing.

The next hurdle is to get the Home Health Care company to obey Federal law that says if a home health care company accepts a patient, they must obey the doctor’s orders.  The story we were getting today was that a nurse will come only 3 times a week…that I have to do the other 11 wound dressing changes myself.

When I quoted Federal Regulations, the RN changed his tune and said he will “plead” our case with his company.  But he said they will only send someone once a day, not twice.  Packing 82″ (about 41 cm.) of 1/2″ (1 cm) cotton tape into the cavity 7 times a week is better than 11.

Dan slept much of the day, but was able to make phone calls to the doctors.  That gave me extra time to take care of the wash, and rest for 20 minutes.  I changed the packing this morning.  The RN changed the packing this afternoon. Since the sun was shining, and Dan was okay, I took the two youngest grandchildren who were home for a spin in our “new” 9 year old Saab convertible. No matter that I couldn’t figure out how to get the top down, we had fun with hot chocolate at the local coffee shop, and a drive down to the library in Half Moon Bay.

A dear friend sent these scriptures and I want to share them with you for you to think about.  So many people are struggling with anger.  Eph. 4:31: Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.  Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Col. 3:8:  But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

The only way I know to be free of anger is to give it to God to deal with every time you feel it rise in you. Pray that God will help free you from the chain that keeps you prisoner, chained to the person with whom you are angry.  There is no peace in anger.  It can literally “eat you alive” with heart attacks, cancer, intestinal trouble, as well as ruin your happiness.  Pray about these things.  — Anne and Dan
