Stretching to Focus on the Positive

Dan is so weak.  He slept all night without waking once Sunday night.  However, today, Monday, he slept most of the day waking only briefly now and then.  He cannot eat more than a few bites of food at a time.  One bite too many and he can’t hold the food on his stomach.  Too much liquid at one time can also upset his stomach.  I have been giving him small sips of peppermint water in an effort to calm his stomach and keep him from dehydrating.

The positive is that we have 2 weeks of precious memories of loved ones being here to support us.  Even though Natasha and Amber left today, we will always remember the loving care they selflessly gave for 10 days to help our entire family. More positives – Stefan, Camellia and Monica, our precious family in Sfantu Gheorghe, Skyped!  It was wonderful to see and talk with them.  Then, Stuart, our beloved Character for Kids team member, Skyped today.  He is thinking about going with me to Romania sometime.

Our First Grandchild tried to phone us last night, but we didn’t connect.  Today, Dan was determined to call her back, but he kept falling asleep in the middle of looking up her number.  After the third time he fell asleep, I asked him, “Please, let me help you dial the number.  I know how important this call is to you.”  We both had a delightful visit with her. Many people, now realizing that Dan may not be on this earth much longer, are writing messages of appreciation for the positive influence Dan has had on their lives.

So, you see, there is always something positive that happens each day.  Well, maybe not as dramatic as our day, but there is always something joyful to think about.  For example, I rejoice when I think about Romans 1:16,17, “I am not ashamed of the Gospel for it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes, first for the Jew and then for the Gentile.  For in the gospel is the righteousness of God revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last.  Just as it is written, ‘The righteous will live by faith.”  Just writing that fills me with joy even while I sit beside my sleeping Dan knowing he will soon be leaving me to go Home.  (Dan says, “Knowledge of the Bible is helpful only if you use it as a guide for your daily life.” ) — Anne and Dan

One of the first sites i check each day is yours, for the latest update. I think and pray about your family so often. I am so happy that your Texas children plan to come to see the two of you this coming weekend, and that Dan will be able to enjoy seing them. As i read my daily calendar this morning, I felt that the scripture and comment wwere for us all:
Psalms 90:4: “A thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday.” The comment really made me think: “May I use they sight when difficulties seem endless.”
    Prayers and love, Gerry
