Memorial Services for Dan

Much to our delight, we learned that this morning, Dan Johnston arranged a memorial service for Dan at Riverside in Coppell.  He had photos on the screen of Dan and his work around the world, and  said some very fine things about Dan.  Tears of joy and appreciation came to our eyes to know that you at Riverside appreciated Dan that much.  This evening we had a true celebration of his life at Coastside.  Friends of our son from the area, from work, from long ago, and from his church family filled the building.  Our son and his precious wife made all the arrangements, ordered the flowers, did everything – even the program.  Several people, including Scott, and me (at the last minute) had some nice things to say about Dan.

Members of the congregation provided desserts for our time of fellowship after the service.  I was the only one with a camera, and I did not think to take photos during the talks or singing. I will attach some photos of the flowers.  Maybe tomorrow I will scan the story of Dan’s life that was written by Scoot on the program.

“Blessed are they who die in the Lord.”  Dan is now resting from his labors, free of cancers AND he is in heaven with the Lord.  I plan to study the Word of God and be sure I know what God wants from me…and thn do it. —  Anne

” . . . Abraham believed in God who promised that Abraham would have descendants . . . They had come from another country. They were not trying to remember what it was like. They could have gone back there, but they were yearning for a better country–a heavenly one. So, God prepared a city for them. He is not ashamed to be called ‘their God’ (Hebrews 11:11,15,16-SEB).” God prepared a lovely, comfortable, and peaceful city for Dan. Faith-filled believers yearn for a heavenly country that we call HOME. God prepares a heavenly home for Christian believers (John 14:1-4). God is not ashamed to be called our God. God is pleased being called our heavenly Father, because God loves believers. God wants to bless Christian believers in every way. God can do anything good (Luke 18:27; Mark 10:27)!

“They shall not be put to shame in the time of evil; and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied (Psalm 37:19-AMP).” Christians who follow the Lord will be satisfied even in difficult times, because God shows Himself strong on behalf of believers who seek God first. God lifts us up and out of the darkness … one day at a time.

“Every good and perfect gift comes down to us from God, the Source of Truth. The Father of lights is always consistent and changeless [He never changes]. God decided to give us life again through the message of His truth, so that we may be the first fruits of His creation (James 1:17,18-SEB).” God only gives good gifts and blessings to His followers. Find today’s good gift blessings from God, and in this way, we heal our hurts. God never changes His good nature toward His followers … He is good every morning. God decides to give believers LIFE now and forevermore through our faith in Jesus Christ, so God can show through believers the great and wonderful things God can do for our lives each day, each hour, and each minute. God is good all the time!

“Every person who believes that Jesus is the Christ is God’s child. Every person who loves the Father also loves the Father’s children . . . Everyone who is a child of God conquers the world. It is our faith which conquers the world (1 John 5:1-4-SEB).” Our faith in a good, loving, faithful God and loving Savior help believers defeat our grief and loss, because believers know God’s promises do come true for every believer. We can recover from any loss, because God makes us victors, not victims. Like Dan, believers who suffer pain will gain relief as they pass on to their heavenly home. Believers who grieve loss will, in due time, gain God’s promised renewed joy again as God turns our sorrows into joy just like Jesus promises to do (John 16:20-24).

God Promises Renewed Beauty after the Death Desert Times: “The desert will be full of growing flowers and will begin to show its happiness. It will seem like the desert is dancing with joy. The desert will be beautiful like the forest … the hill … and Sharon Valley. This will happen because all the people will see the Glory of the Lord. People will see the beauty of our God (Isaiah 35:2-ETRV).” Beauty is on the way soon for you, Anne. I am praying for you.

    Love,
    Sherrie H.
