It’s Really Friday Morning 2:00

I am finally packed, sent Jonathan the eulogy he asked me to write – actually, I sent him a beautiful message that Dr. Samuel Obeng, Kumasi, Ghana, wrote about Dan.  God blessed our day Thursday with sunshine.  I took time to rest…I’m still only able to sleep 5 hours at night, but that is due to 2 things I think.  The first one is that I had to be awake so much in the night and in the early morning to care for Dan.  The second one is that one side effect of deep grief is that one does not sleep well…or they sleep too  much.  No matter what time I go to bed, I sleep 5 hours and wake up.

But God will see me through this.  There is light at the end of the tunnel…and it is not a freight train coming towards me from the other end of the track.

A reminder for anyone coming from out of town to Dan’s Memorial Service Saturday — relatives and out of town guests will be served lunch by our former Bible class following the service.  And, all of you who can attend the Memorial Service will be blessed by being together to honor Dan…and comfort each other. Our Lord is the God of all comfort.

    Anne,
I remember you and Dan singing together seated next to me and Steve at Walnut Hill some Sunday mornings. How we miss hearing you sing, but enjoy remembering those glorious Sunday mornings singing praises to the Lord alongside you and Dan. Made us all smile, as I remember, hearing one another sing praises to our Lord. I like this photo. I also liked hearing Dan pray. Dan had meaningful prayers that uplifted our hearts. Now, Dan personally gets to talk with the Lord every single day … and even on our behalf. Reminds me of Scripture the apostle Paul teaches that helps keep our minds focused on the heavenly goal about where we are going. And, reminds us of the large number of Christian believers we’ve known and loved who are already in heaven cheering us on to keep our focus on Jesus everyday because heaven is a glorious Home. Those beloved believers will once again be gathered in heaven with us forever and ever in the Presence of the Lord Jesus every single day.

Paul teaches, “We are surrounded by such a large number [cloud] of witnesses! We must put aside anything that might slow us down. Sin can easily tie us up. Let us run with endurance the race that is ahead of us. Jesus endured when He had to suffer shame and die on a cross. Why? Because of the happiness that lay ahed for Him … Keep your eyes on Jesus. He is the beginning and the goal of our faith. Now, He sits at the right side of God’s throne (Hebrews 12:1,2-SEB).” “So, Christ can completely save the people who come to God through Him. Christ always lives to plead for them (Hebrews 7:25-SEB).” “The promise of going into God’s place of rest is still open . . . We believe. So, we are entering that place of rest . . . God rested on the seventh day from all His works . . . A person who enters God’s place of rest also rests from his works, as God rested from His works. We must do our best to enter God’s place of rest . . . We must hold onto what we said we believed. Our High Priest [Jesus] can sympathize with our weaknesses. He was tempted in every way, as we are, but He never sinned! Let us come near God’s throne of gracious love with confidence. Then, we can receive mercy and we can find gracious love to help us when we need it (Hebrews 4:1-11,14-16-SEB).”

    Love, Sherrie Hammond
