A Change in the Weather

A Change in the Weather

A new day…with first snow to stay on the ground this winter in St. George, Covasna County, Transylvania, Romania. We expected the first snow to come in November. Surprise1 It came almost 3 months late.

A few children are skiing on the mountains in the distance. For the first time in years, the nation’s schools are closed due to heavy snow…the worst is in southern and eastern Romania. No travel to Bucharest — roads are blocked by snow in many areas..

(When schools ARE open, many classrooms are so cold…the children and teachers wear coats and caps to try to keep warm.) God’s Children is thankful for you who send warm clothes for these children.

What message do you see in this? There are many. It just depends, perhaps, on what you are ready to learn. What comes first to my mind is Matthew 24:35-37, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.”

We can’t change the weather…but what do you need to change? God helps honest hearts find the way. — Anne

LST Brings Sports Camp to St. George

A youthful LST team, led by Mike and Shannon Plog and their amazing teens, conducted a sports camp at the Red Cross Building during the week of July 22-26.  The camp was held from 10:00 to 11:30 AM and from 2 to 6 PM.  This camp was structured a little differently than regular LST reading sessions.  Instead of individual readers discussing passages one on one, the team conducted group reading and discussion sessions; would break for a game, and then return for another discussion session.

Each teen was responsible for planning a game, giving Shannon the rules and a supply list for the game, and leading the game.  This was great training for them, and great fun for their friends in St. George.   It has been a joy to see our teens in action and to see them developing into future Christian leaders!  Well done, teenagers!  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the work you have done. —  Linda and Anne, St. George, Transylvania, Romania!

God’s Gracious Provision

Romania is a country of physical beauty and also of abundant provision.  Nearly very household has a garden, and every family works hard during the growing season to store food for the long, cold winter.  It is a common sight to see families working in the garden.  It is an everyday task for them to gather and process garden produce for future use when the gardens are long since dormant.  Transylvania is the breadbasket of eastern Europe, and the garden produce is wonderful. This week we have worked hard making raspberry jam, apricot jam, black currant juice and rose petal jam.  A trip to the piac , pronounced pea – ach’, is a visual reminder of how God blesses us with such abundance.  This open air market is made up of many stalls where the farmers can sell their crops.  The quality and variety of foods is genuine “eye candy” to any foodie.  Thank you, God, for our daily bread and for your wonderful provision.
